FLAG MARSHALS |
| ROLE:
Flag Marshals are an extremely important
part of our club days racing, without them
there would be no racing.
Each Flag Marshal is to constantly
monitor the portion of the track
that each marshalling station is responsible
for: (the corner at which you are stationed
through to the next marshal station)
Flag Marshals have the responsibility to
use one of three flags as and when required
- they are:
Yellow (caution,
slow down do not pass),
Black (rolled
or open) and
Red
(race stopped emergency situation
all karts stop immediately)
Each flag marshal has the right to make
calls as they see them and to take action
according to the situation they see.
Note: If in any doubt seek
advice from the Duty Team Leader. |
| RESPONSIBILITIES
Primarily the Flag Marshals
are there to warn drivers of potential hazards
ie: a karts spins in a corner, karts have
made contact / stopped and the corner is
blocked.
In this event - wave the Yellow
Flag to warn following drivers
to slow down and be ready to stop if necessary.
Note: There is to be no
passing while under a Yellow Flag, any driver
breaking this rule is to be shown a rolled
Black flag the next time round.
Marshalls should not leave their post to
help remove a kart from the track (other
than if a midget or intermediate driver)
it is the responsibility of the driver
to get safely off the track.
Rolled Black Flag:
if in your opinion a driver is driving in
a manner which is unsafe or could cause
another driver to take evasive action then
a rolled black flag is to be shown to the
driver (record kart number)
- ie: deliberate knocking over of cones,
weaving, pushing, barging, changing lines
on driver behind
At the conclusion of the race the driver
must report to you and be told why the rolled
Black Flag was used (note do not
enter into a discussion or argument with
the driver). If the driver has
a concern with reason for rolled black flag
direct them to the Team Leader.
Open Black Flag: this
is used when you have noticed that a kart
has a serious safety issue ie: petrol
leaking, flat tyres, loose parts or any
other safety issue (dangerous driving)
In any of these instances an open Black
Flag should be waved at the kart in question,
the driver must pull off the track immediately,
turn off his kart and kart get out of it
as quickly and as safely as possible. The
reason for the black flag must be repaired
or rectified before they can race again.
Red Flag: this
is waved in the event of an emergency and
applies to all flag marshals and means a
full course stop, all drivers should stop
as soon as possible and without hitting
another driver (look for hand signals),
the race starter may call for a restart
or end a race depending on the circumstances
Air horns: Each
flag marshal station is equipped with an
air horn and this is only to be used in
the event of an emergency and will result
in a full course Red Flag situation.
Radio Contact:
Flag Marshal stations are equipped with
walkie-talkies and these
are to be used in the event you need:
- To advise starter ( or Duty Team Leader)
that you need replacing
- Contacting Duty team Leader and informing
or requesting advise about a situation
that you are unable to handle.
NO RACE WILL START UNLESS
ALL FLAG MARSHAL STATIONS ARE MANNED. |
